Fenella’s role is to create the strategy and vision for how carbon pricing can be used to help countries access finance and increase their climate ambition through transactional carbon finance inflows. She leads a team of global experts offering technical assistance to support government to ready themselves for international carbon trading, whilst in parallel originating a pipeline of emission reducing activities.
Fenella has a wealth of over 20-years’ industry experience in financial and carbon markets. Before joining GGGI, she spent 7 years structuring international carbon transactions with Africa’s largest bank by assets, Standard Bank, part of a small carbon trading team, leading the bank into multiple award winning, first-to-market transactions. For example, securitization structures against tranched portfolios of emission reducing projects. She additionally helped to design and run the ACAD (Africa Carbon Asset Development) program – the first public/private program of its type between UNEP FI and Standard Bank to help allocate grant funding and develop capacity building for emission reducing projects across sub-Saharan Africa.
