MARKOWITZ, Kenneth

Ken Markowitz is a partner at Akin’s environment & natural resources practice and co-leads the firm’s climate change practice. Ken has more than three decades of experience in advising companies, governments and environmental groups on climate change, clean energy, environmental and sustainability issues. He is a well-known, major participant in global climate change policy and regulatory affairs, international negotiations, the voluntary carbon markets, and transactions.  He has more than three decades’ experience in advising companies, governments and environmental groups on environmental law, climate change and sustainability issues, including on issues including carbon offsets, carbon pricing, renewable fuels, air and water pollution, energy efficiency, climate disclosures, environmental claims, and environmental, social and governance (ESG). Ken serves as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors for Verra, world’s leading carbon crediting standard and is the Co-Chair of the U.S. Working Group for the International Emissions Trading Associations (IETA). He formerly served as an EPA Regional Enforcement Attorney and Managing Director of the International Network of Environmental Compliance and Enforcement (INECE).
