Melissa Lindsay

Founder and CEO of Emsurge, a digital marketplace and orderbook management system, for highly bespoke commodities.  Emsurge was founded in 2018, launching first in LNG before expanding into carbon markets to meet the rising demand for credits by LNG traders, who like to transact in size, know who they are trading with and use bilateral credit lines.  Emsurge now has over 75 banks, trading houses, energy companies, carbon project developers and retailers using the system to originate carbon credits on a spot and forward basis.

Melissa is also the founder of Emstream, a tech enabled LNG and Carbon brokerage and consultancy.   Together, Emstream and Emsurge utilise technology to assist companies in the faster origination of spot, forward and project finance opportunities, they have closed over 6 million tonnes of carbon credits and 20 cargoes of LNG.  

Prior to founding her own companies, she was the Global Head of LNG and Spanish Gas for Tullett Prebon for a over a decade, building the world’s leading LNG physical and financial broking desk, across London, Madrid and Singapore.  Working closely with Citibank, she was instrumental in the design and development of the LNG financial market, helping banks, utilities and energy companies understand the role of derivatives in LNG risk management. Over 15 years, she has facilitated the sale and purchase of over 100 spot cargoes and structured term agreements for LNG and Carbon.  More recently she was a member of the TSVCM and has been helping drive the conversation on the legitimate use of credits and carbon pricing to encourage faster decarbonisation of the LNG supply chain.  She has an MSc in Economics and International Development from the University of Bath.
