BRUNEL, Nigel

Nigel Brunel is Managing Director of Marex New Zealand – Marex offers execution, clearing and OTC solutions across the complete suite of global financial and commodity markets.

Nigel has over two decades experience in global commodities and financial markets – both OTC & Exchange Traded.

His focus over the last ten years has been in the New Zealand & Australian compliance carbon markets, with an emphasis on developing pricing and settlement architecture including platform development. He also has considerable experience in various carbon structures including spot, forward and structured transactions. He recently completed the largest pre-paid offtake transaction in the New Zealand ETS which involved over 5,000 hectares valued at NZ$55 million. 

He has a deep understanding of domestic and international climate policy, including Article 6 and how that relates to carbon markets with a particular interest in how Emission Trading Schemes operate.  

His previous role was Head of Commodities at Jarden which included the development of CommTrade before taking up his new role as Managing Director of Marex in New Zealand in July 2024.

He has a Masters in Climate Change Science and Policy from Victoria University in Wellington.
