BENSON, Scarlett

Scarlett is based at the World Resources Institute (WRI). Scarlett leads the Beyond Value Chain Mitigation work at the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and the corporate standards and target setting workstream of the Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU). She sits on the Steering Committee of the Science Based Targets Network Land Hub, developing nature science-based targets for land occupation and transformation. She has authored a number of flagship publications including “Growing Better: Ten Critical Transitions to Transform Food and Land Use“, “The Future of Nature and Business Policy Companion“, “and “Accelerating the 10 Critical Transitions: Positive Tipping Points for Food and Land Use Systems Transformation“.

Scarlett has advised several other standards bodies and frameworks on how to raise the bar on corporate action on climate and nature. For example, she advised the UK Government in the set up and technical development of the Voluntary Carbon Market Integrity initiative (VCMI), the Race to Zero UN initiative on offsetting, carbon removals and claims, and the Carbon Disclosure Standards Board on their guidance on biodiversity disclosures.

Scarlett has a Ba (Hons) in Human Sciences from the University of Oxford and an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College, London.
