Frank Aaskov is Director of Energy and Climate Change Policy at UK Steel, where he leads the steel industry’s policy and advocacy on energy, climate change, and decarbonisation. His work focuses on the economic and policy conditions required to maintain a competitive UK steel industry while delivering the transition to low-carbon production.
Frank specialises in industrial energy policy, electricity market design, carbon pricing and carbon border measures, and the investment frameworks needed to support industrial decarbonisation. He is a prominent advocate for competitive industrial electricity prices and has shaped UK Steel’s positions on the British Industrial Supercharger, UK and EU Emissions Trading Schemes, and the UK Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.
He is the author of Net Zero Steel Production, UK Steel’s landmark assessment of how the industry could decarbonise by 2035, and leads the organisation’s analysis of industrial electricity prices and their impact on international competitiveness. His work has been cited extensively in national and international media, and he regularly engages directly with Ministers, Government departments, regulators, and Parliament on the future of UK industry.
Frank has given evidence to UK parliamentary committees on steel decarbonisation, electricity networks, trade, and UK–EU climate policy, and has spoken at international industry forums. He previously led energy policy at Make UK and worked at the Renewable Energy Association.
He studied Political Science at Aarhus University and holds an MA in Environment, Politics & Globalisation from King’s College London.
