Ahmet Berkan Korkmaz serves as the Aviation Expert at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of Türkiye
He holds Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering (2007–2012) and a Master of Science in Hydromechanics Engineering (2012–2017) from the Middle East Technical University, where he wrote his thesis on “The Potential of Osmotic Power for Turkey.”, which was the first academic study on this topic in Türkiye. His coursework included advanced fluid mechanics, turbulent flows, hydropower engineering, computational fluid dynamics and coastal pollution. He also holds an Associate Degree in Photography and Cameraman Studies from Anadolu University (2016–2018), and a Bachelor of Arts in Radio, Television, and Cinema from Gazi University (Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, 2018–2022),
Ahmet Berkan Korkmaz serves as the Aviation Expert at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of Türkiye. He leads national implementation of ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), acting as Türkiye’s official focal point. His responsibilities include overseeing the monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of CO₂ emissions, managing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) policy development, coordinating with international stakeholders on carbon pricing mechanisms, and contributing to the formulation of Türkiye’s Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement.
He plays a leading role in aligning Türkiye’s aviation sector with the ICAO Long-Term Aspirational Goal (LTAG) for net-zero emissions by 2050. His technical duties involve lifecycle assessment of aviation fuels, waste and emissions management in airports, offsetting mechanisms, and integration with national carbon markets and emission trading systems (ETS). He also contributes to the development of sustainable airport frameworks and green infrastructure projects.
He has represented Türkiye in numerous high-level international meetings, including ICAO CAEP, SAF conferences, the EU–Türkiye Transport and Environment Subcommittee, and the World Bank GEF Seminars. He regularly speaks on sustainable aviation policy, carbon markets, and fuel lifecycle emissions.
Outside his professional field, he is an accomplished musician and educator with over 20 years of experience in guitar performance and composition. He has more than 30 compositions, one score book and directed 2 short movies.
